Fun Stuff To Do For Halloween Weekend Links and Promotions

Happy Friday,

I have been so busy this week filling orders and trying to make new items that I have not had much time to do much else.

Halloween arrives on Wednesday of next week and there are some fun things happening around town.

Frightened Felons at the Old Penitentiary
 Friday Oct. 26, 2012
The Old Idaho Penitentiary will once again open it’s doors during the spookiest season! Walk through 140 years of history and, of course, hear about all the scary but TRUE things that happened in every hidden corner.  All ages are welcome, but remember some themes can be too scary for kids under 10.

I attended last year as part of the entertainment. It is interesting and a lot of fun.  History rises from the Dead for this event.

Linder Farms
A real working pumpkin farm.  They are open all month, check the link for times.  This is family fun, walk the maze, but don’t get lost…
Home of BSU’s Corn Maze.

It reads “Bronco Nation”

Field of Scrams at the Farmstead
I-84 and Eagle Road…
Where getting lost means finding fun!

I have not attended this, but I have been to the corn maze and other attractions.  These are OUTDOOR events and it is COLD!  Dress warmly, and bring a flash light, there isn’t any electricity out in the fields or the woods and it’s  DARK out there!

This year is the 13th Annual Haunted World! How appropriate!

This is the largest outdoor Haunted attraction in the area, and it is very entertaining.  The Haunted House and Walk through the woods is nerve-racking fun!   Things jump out at you, costumed players pop out when you least expect it, diving from the corn rows or stalking you through the woods, and there are things planted and buried along the path (like trampolines) that make you feel uneasy.   Spooky, scary fun!

Please remember to follow the links for information, many of these events require a ticket or admission fee.  Times and dates are listed on their websites along with other information, like maps and directions.

Be safe out there this weekend!

Thank you for coming by and scaring up something to do!

The Alchemists Vessel would like to wish you a Spooktacular weekend!

Image via CrunchBase

Good Morning,

Tuesday is here and Halloween is fast approaching, which means the Holidays and Family Fun is right around the corner.

Let’s see if we can’t knock an item or two off that shopping list with some cool gift ideas from the shops on Etsy.

From: Emily Andrews

Guillotine – Acrylic Painting (Print)

DescriptionThis is a print of a detailed section of a 2011 painting I did on canvas with acrylic, pastel, and ink. Though the painting is not completely finished, I find that this section in itself can be considered a separate painting. The full title of the painting is “If my Thought Dreams Could be Seen, They’d Probably Put my Head in a Guillotine”, which is a line from a Bob Dylan song. The painting is 5ft x 6ft and it portrays a statement on the treatment of women in modern society and how their looks are valued more than their thoughts and opinions. The print is on glossy photo paper and is 8.5in x 11in.
Other sizes are available for every print.

She also has some super cute Jewelry

Yellow Gold Glass Beaded Butterfly Necklace

Description: A glass beaded necklace with an elegant butterfly pendant, featuring bronze-gold and transparent yellow glass beads. The butterfly pendant is metal and gold in colour and measures 3cm long and 3.5cm wide. The full length of the necklace is 44cm and it has a spring ring clasp.

From: Sues Arts

Daisy Flower Ring

Description: SOLD SEPARATELY – PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHICH # YOU LIKE.

Gorgeously beautiful and unique rings in antique bronze.

CUSTOM ORDERS WELCOME

DELIVERED IN A GIFT BAG

Vintage beauty cameo necklace, Horse picture, cameo necklace, charm necklace, antique cameo necklace

Description: Gorgeous looking vintage image of a lady and her horse.

This is a large cameo setting in antique silver. Custom print and design that is unique and one of a kind. Frame size about 21/2 x 2.

Necklace is about 18″ long but can be adjusted per request with no extra charge.

From:  Dark Mountain Treasures

Orange Enamel Leaf Earrings

Description:  Fall is my favorite season – I love everything about it, especially the changing colors of the leaves. Enameled metal leaf pendant with genuine carnelian, garnet, and tiger’s eye accent beads strung on orange copper wire.

Ear wires are nickel-free gold metal. Earrings are 2.75 inches long.

Studio News 10-5-12

Good Morning,

Wednesday arrives and catches me unprepared!   This morning’s blog is brief as I suddenly find myself up to my ears in display racks, and that’s pretty easy, because I am really short.

The Treasure Valley Flea Market is this weekend, October 6th and 7th, 2012, at Idaho Expo at the Fairgrounds.   I have been busy packing, polishing and preparing items for the up coming event and as such have not made anything new in the studio.  However we do have some cool Halloween themed jewelry in the Shop and at the Market.  Enter the coupon code: Holiday10 at check out and receive a 10% Discount on your entire purchase.

Also I am currently studying the fifth mod of the Jewelry Design and Repair Technician Certification course I am taking.  Believe it or not, most people behind a jewelry counter, whether department store or fine jewelery boutique have been certified by an educational institution of one kind or other, and it never hurts to continue one’s education and learn about new processes, tools, and materials.  If all goes as intended I should complete, or graduate from the course, if you prefer, before April, 2013.

Speaking of classes and courses.  I am still the Contracted Jewelry Instructor at Jo-Ann Fabric and Craft Stores here in Boise and will be starting classes at Bella’s Grove, 2210 S. Broadway, upstairs, in November.  Dates and details will be announced on this blog.

Thank you for stopping in and having a look.

The Alchemists Vessel would like to wish you a pleasant day.

Bella’s Grove and Links and Promotions

Good Morning,

Friday is here, the weekend promises to be bright and lovely and I can’t wait to get out on the Greenbelt down by the river and go for a little Autumn walk, and see what mother nature has in store.

Before I get into the announcements and event promotions, I would like to venture to the Discovery Center in Boise Idaho.  This month a new exhibit began, Bodies Revealed, and this is just fascinating.  Although I do not have tickets yet, I intend to go.   The link will take you to The Plan Your Visit Page, with information on Tickets and the Discovery Center’s address and hours of operation.  The bodies are actual people, plasticized and preserved in an exhibit of how the body functions and what you look like on the inside.   For $8.00 this is not to be missed.

ANNOUNCEMENTS AND EVENTS

The Alchemists Vessel is excited and very pleased to announce that Jewelry Classes will be starting soon, dates need to be confirmed and will be announced within the next couple of weeks.

In My Studio – Random Thoughts

Image representing Etsy as depicted in CrunchBase

Image via CrunchBase

Hello there,

I did not have anything specific in mind for today’s blog, thought about a couple of subjects, but they just didn’t seem to grab me.  So I’m just gonna ramble I think.  Gotta post something.

I had an excellent conversation with my good friend, and incredible sculptor, Ralph Cordero of RGC Studios, you can find his work on Etsy under Twisted Little Things.   I actually own a couple of those gruesome cuties!  We discusses the state of employment for artists, what’s available and what’s not, and what to do or how to re-create your offerings to appeal to the masses, or get that coveted job that was applied for.  The industry is full of kids just graduating from their respective colleges and looking for work that doesn’t exist.  Competition is tough in an industry job-market that is already overrun with want-to-bes.  So what does the established artist do when this happens?  That is a conundrum.

First of all you sit down on your tushie and git that hamster on the wheel, and start thinking about how to create interest and drive customers to your site, shop, table, display, store, or what have you.  Contemplate, evaluate, decide, rearrange, organize, and have a cup of coffee in the middle of all that, narrow your focus to laser-beam precision and begin the process of elimination or addition to make the items stand out, or to make it all happen.

After attending the Treasure Valley Flea Market this weekend, I sat down and did some serious thinking and reorganization as well as re-evaluating and deciding what to do about the lack-luster performance in sales.  Several things have come to mind and may be worth passing along.

The economy is terrible right now,  Just awful, this is an obvious given, no one is blind to the fact that gas is now creeping up over $4.00 a gallon, again, and with that goods and services are also going up, which leaves little money for the aspirational (not necessary) things like art, and jewelry.

The Treasure Valley Flea Market occurs once a month, I have attended since 2005, I have been a regular vendor at Booth #28 for seven years.  I see the same vendors and the same customers every show, occasionally there will be something new to see, but for the most part it is the same stalls over and over again.   I have come to the conclusion that I have run the gamete at this particular venue.

In the interest of keeping myself sane and my bank account in the black, I will be reducing the number of TVFMs I attend.  I will of course be attending October and November Markets, however during the 2013 Season, I will perhaps attend one Market, and one Market only.  Save those pennies, because The Alchemists Vessel will only be there once.

There will also be several changes coming to The Alchemists Vessel as well.  We will still provide quality off the rack jewelry, but the focus will be on high end One Of A Kind pieces, and not your average everyday manufactured comes-in-everything department store jewelry.

The website alchemistsvessel.net will also see some changes, as well as a complete and well stocked items page for your shopping pleasure.  The handmadeartists.com shop The Alchemists Vessel , will also be seeing some changes as we add to and remove some items listed on the site.  I know many people get lost on Etsy or e-Bay with the overwhelming amount of products there are to peruse.  We will also be closing the Cafe Press shop.  There isn’t any traffic and even though it is free, there is no sense in monitoring or putting energy into something that is not performing as one would have liked.

A quick reminder, Halloween is coming up and we have cool themed items in the Ravens Nook for your costume or just for fun.  Spiders, bats, skulls, black and orange gemstone beads, ooooo spooky!  Blog readers this is a special for you!  Starting October 01, 2012, there will be a coupon code for 20% off all themed items in the shop.  Bookmark your favorites now and come back and get them when they are on sale later!

OK, I think I have run out of random stuff to discuss.  Tomorrow’s blog will feature a fellow Handmade Artists jewelry designer.

Thank you for stopping in and having a read.

The Alchemists Vessel would like to wish you a pleasant day.

Monday Shop News

Good Morning,

Monday has arrived, and it is time to begin the work week once again!  This morning’s blog is short as I spent the weekend at the local Flea Market.

Because Art in the Park and several other events were all happening this weekend, people’s time and attention was divided, we enjoyed an intimate setting and a nice flow of customers.

Next months market is October 6th and 7th, we will have Halloween themed jewelry on sale for one show only and in the web stores through the month.

For those of you that shop with us on line, you may have noticed some changes to Etsy.  The activity feed will now look different.  As these changes are being rolled out slowly not every one may be able to see them immediately.

Shops and favorite items are grouped into boxes of four, Treasuries are also listed in this fashion now.  Single item photos are much larger.  The Feed has been divided in to two pages, Following and Your Shop.   The Following page allows you to see the people in your circles (now “Followers”) and their activity.  If you have a sellers account and want to see what’s going on with your shop items, you will find it under the “Your Shop” Tab, individual items will be listed with the ID of the person that clicked the item.

Now it’s back to the workbench to clean and polish and prepare and pack for next months market.

Thank you for stopping in and having a read.

The Alchemists Vessel would like to wish you a pleasant day.
