Holiday Ornament Green Sled with Poinsettia’s Christmas Decoration

DescriptionThis is a hand painted pine sled with bright red poinsettias and holly. The sled is green with white runners. Silver holly leaves and red ornaments make this a spectacular ornament. This sled will become a treasured holiday decoration you’ll love for many years. It would also be an exceptional gift to give a loved one.

For the sled I used acrylic paint and three coats of varnish to ensure durability. The holly and ornaments are glued on. I added a red and gold tie for hanging.

Great effort has gone into accurately describing and photographing products, but please note color representation alters depending on individual screen settings.

Featured Artist I Knit Quilt Sew

Good Morning,

It is my pleasure to introduce you to an other clever and artistic person from handmadeartists.com, I Knit Quilt Sew. This woman is not kidding about that either!  as a fellow knitter I am in awe of some her wonderful and just plain fun designs and items, lets show you a few of my favorites.

I Knit Quilt Sew

Aren’t these just the cutest things!  She hand knits, quilts and sews some marvelous and whimsical, and practical items with a touch of flair and fun!  These are so neat and a fabulous take on the Baby Bootie.

Cowboy Booties Hand Knit in Red and White

Product Details:  These unisex hand knit Cowboy or Bowgirl Boot-ees are so cute!  They are hand knit from high quality acrylic yarn in bright white and really red.  These cowboy booties are easy care and can be machine washed and dried on cool settings.

The booties will fit a newborn to 3-month-old baby, measuring 3.75 inches (9.5 cm) heel to toe.  They are 4.25 inches (10.75 cm) tall.
Perhaps your school colors are red and white.  Maybe you’re a Cardinals fan.  These booties are perfect!

Handmade Log Cabin Style Baby or Lap Quilt in Blues

Product Details: Again trying to capture that heirloom, vintage quality, I’ve constructed this log cabin baby or lap quilt in shades of blue. The quilt is machine assembled, and entirely hand-quilted. The navy blue binding is sewn on by hand then over-stitched by machine. All the fabrics used are polyester cotton blends, with polyester medium loft batting, making this quilt machine wash and dry on cool/delicate settings. It can also be dried flat or hung to dry.

Laid flat, the quilt measures 38.5 inches (97.8 cm) wide by 42 inches (106.7 cm) long. It’s a wonderful size for traveling, covering a car seat, or for a play mat. This certainly would be a wonderful shower gift, too! The last of my pictures shows this quilt on my quilt frame being quilted.

This quilt does have my tag in it and meets all US Government regulations. The shipping weight on this quilt is two pounds.

Cream Fleece Handmade Teddy Bear

Product Details:  This handmade teddy bear is made from cream-colored Polar Fleece® and is so soft and cuddly!  This toy teddy stands 17 inches (43.25 cm) tall to the tip of his ears.  He has safety stay plastic eyes, a hand-embroidered nose and mouth, and a acrylic-blend knit black and white striped scarf.  This teddy bear has moving arms and legs too – he is jointed using the very old-school string-and-button method, which is all internal.

My tag is securley sewn into a seam in the back of this teddy bear, making him in full compliance with US Government regulations for toys.  Shipping weight on this bear is 2 pounds.

What the Shop Owner says:

I truly love what I do… whether it’s knitting that perfect pair of booties or hand-quilting my latest creation, it’s a labor of love. Though I’m creating a commercial environment for my work, I don’t want to lose that passion. For this reason, you won’t find hundreds of items in my store. Each and every item will be made with care and great attention to the details.

My grandmother taught me to knit and sew before color TV was invented! Most of my knitting comes from her patterns which she claimed were her mothers – which would date them in the late 1800s! This is what gives my knitting its old-fashioned, classic style.

I am a self-taught quilter. I learned that from books years ago. But primarily, I’m an artist. My medium is fabric and yarn!

Thank you for stopping in and having a look.  We hope we have inspired you to take a look at I Knit Quilt Sew and see what warm and wonderful thing you may find for your winter needs!

The Alchemists Vessel would like to wish you a pleasant day.

A Bead Thing – Featured Artist

Thursday is here and we have a new Featured Artist this morning.

It is always a pleasure to share and bring another artist to your attention.

Today’s Featured Artists is Pam, owner of A Bead Thing on handmadeartist.com

What she says about her shop:

“Handcrafted jewelry is my passion. Choose handcrafted bracelets, rings, necklaces and pendants. I especially love creating bead woven jewelry because of the enormous variety in colors available and the diversity in style that can be created. Bead woven or stitched items are also lightweight and easily cared for. All contributed content © abeadthing.”

What Pam has to offer in her shop:

Swarovski Flip Flops

Description:  These cutsie flip flops are made using 4mm swarovski crystals in complementary colors with a few 11/0 seed beads for the little flower on top.  These are a delight to make and to wear, lightweight and will get you all kinds of “oooh where did you get those” comments.

I have several pair in inventory of vayring color combinations and these can be special ordered as long as I have the colors in stock.

Jasper Pendant

Description: The specific type of this jasper stone is unknown. It has beautiful greens and brown colorations through the stone and is wrapped in a copper wire.  Stone measures 1.25 square and we have set it on its toe. Jasper is a form of chalcedony believed to be created in volcanic eruptions and lava and formed by the flow of the lava.  This is a one of a kind pendant.

Netted Butterfly

Description: Beautiful butterflies, using 11/0 pastel mint seed beads as well as gold tone metallic 11/0 seed beads.  This creates the illusion of a butterfly with the 4mm glass pearl.  This bracelet is entirely handmade including the clasp which is created using the Peyote stitch and the tubular Peyote stitch.  Bracelet is  8.5 inches in length but special orders for specific sizes are welcomed.

What the artists says about herself:

Bio Excerpt:

One day I was to go to a Halloween party and asked my daughter to take some of the beads and make me something to wear. She did and that was the beginning. She began playing around with the beads and we began to buy more and more beads. The more I watched her play around, the more intrigued I became until one day I started playing around with them again. This did not take long at all and I was hooked. I have not stopped since. I began researching techniques and learning all I could about beading and checking out what others were doing and then realized that I was no longer depressed and that God had been working in my life with those beads for many many years. He continues to guide me and provide me with inspiration and I am thankful that He did not give up on me.

Enjoy browsing our items and I hope that if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you for stopping by and having a look.

The Alchemists Vessel would like to wish you a pleasant day.

Featured Artists: Handmade Artists dot com

Hello,

Thursday Featured Artist is back!  The Blog Ring has begun anew and I am pleased not only to be included in the opportunity to share, but to share the site where it all happens as well.

Handmade Artists or handmadeartists.com

If you like or are familiar with the online shopping site Etsy, you’ll love Handmade Artists.  Beautiful and unique handmade items and interesting people and shops, there is a lot to see at Handmade Artists.  The front page changes daily or hourly depending on how many Artist / Vendors are posting new items at any given time.  There are Highlights to look at, too; member made collections of favorite items from the artists on the site.  Some are themed, some are created as contests, and others range from gift ideas to wish lists.  Relatively more intimate than Etsy’s overwhelming content, if you’re looking for a more personal setting, Handmade Artists is the place to shop.

Handmade Artists' Blog! There is also an online community, forum, blog and a place for vendors to share ideas, discuss their art and in general find camaraderie and share their passion for art, regardless of chosen medium, material, talent (painting, jewelry-making, crocheting) or just chat about what’s happening.

One of the best things about the site is that it is free for Buyer accounts.  That’s just what they are called, there is no obligation to buy anything, and looking is always fun and entertaining, and always free.

Are you an artist looking for a venue? You say you have searched or tried others, only to find them lacking or disappointing, or simply too expenisve.  Why not give handmadeartists.com a try.  For $5.00 a month, (there is a discount for annual membership), you too can open your own shop.  The Alchemists Vessel has one, I have made a sale, and the items do reach views in the hundreds.  Your items, art, creations, will be seen!

It's Better Handmade! There is also a “sister” site, It’s Better Handmade, a social site for artists to connect, show and share their creations, as well as find information, receive comments and feedback, and leave comments and feedback for others.
As a jewelry designer I am honored to be part of such a unique community and wide variety of artists.  I hope you will stop by the site, even if it’s just out of curiosity to look at the front page.

Thank you for stopping by and having a look.

The Alchemists Vessel would like to wish you a pleasant day.

Thursday Feature – Etsy Tips

Greetings,

This morning I find myself sans an artist to feature.  So instead of featuring a single artist, I thought it might be interesting to give some tips, tricks and things I have learned about Etsy, and how to use the site.

What is Etsy?

Many people have never heard of Etsy.  To quote a friend, “Etsy is the World’s garage sale“.  Actually it is kind of like the World’s garage sale, there are thousands of shops to peruse and all of it is handmade, unless you are searching for supplies for your handmade goodies.  Buyer accounts are free to sign up for.

Shop Presence, what is it, how do you do it?

Shop Presence is a buzz word for really nothing at all.  The idea behind it is that your shop stands out or is more present (accessible) than another.  What does this entail?  Building your store front, banner, shop items, and even your avatar count to draw people into your shop. Yes, the shop name may be important as well.

Shop Name:  “The Alchemists Vessel” doesn’t give you any idea about what I do, however the name does give some idea of what you might find at my shop.  Gemstones, crystals, pendulums, unique items of unknown origin.   Think about the name and what it says about your shop.  “Kay’s Jeweler‘s” leaves nothing to guess at, you know that Kay sells Jewelry.
As a seller / vendor you have about seven (7) seconds to grab and hold a shoppers attention before they click through to another shop or site.  How can you grab and hold on to that customer’s / shopper’s attention?  With your store front, of course.

Make it interesting, colorful and informative.  The first thing a customer should notice is what you’re offering!  Jewelry, Paintings, Knitted items, whatever, make sure that the customer knows they are in the right place to find what they are looking for.

The Banner:  The banner is just that, a big Title Block image at the top of the page.  This is mine.
It reads:  “Decorating extraordinary people with extraordinary jewelry”. (A bit hard to read at this size, I know).

This banner tells you what I do, I offer “extraordinary jewelry”, and of course the person shopping certainly feels that they are extraordinary anyway.

Your Shop banner should give some indication of what you do, sell or what business you are venturing. (Photography, knitting, painting, sculpting, whatever).
This is the old banner.  Pictures of beads give you a “visual clue” as to what you may find at the shop, and “Extraordinary Ornamentation” is the confirmation.

Avatar:  Your avatar is the picture that represents you on the site.  Many people use a portion of their banner, an image or a picture of themselves.  I have found that a portrait (picture of the seller) works much better than an image or other graphic. People tend to trust a face more than an icon.  You all know what I look like, no sense in posting my own.

Store Front / Items:  There are several schools of thought on this, I will share a couple.

A “full store front”.  Some shops do not have enough merchandise to fill up the allotted 24 item boxes on the front page of the shop.  The more you add the more pages will automatically be created.  Apparently it is important to keep at least 24 items in the shop, there is no explanation as to why.  It does however look better to have a full front page.

Featured Items: These are items chosen from your shop that you wish to feature on your shops front or home page.  They are underneath the banner and on top of the 24 items on your front page.  These items should reflect the BEST you have to offer.  If possible be sure that the featured items are not also listed on the front page of the shop.

Variety:  I know it is within our nature to organize like things with like things.  However piling all your earrings on the front page when you also sell bracelets or necklaces isn’t going to get those other things noticed or sold!  Diversify the listings, try to look at the page as a catalog of all your merchandise.  A customer / shopper can see that you also carry bracelets and necklaces as well as earrings.   Try to group things vertically and horizontally, this goes with that which could be paired with the other thing.

Currently my front page does not reflect this and I need to do a little re-arranging.

Pictures:  Yes, they are so important.  Clear, focused photos are best.
Try to take your photos in natural light.
Do not clutter up the background with stuff, you want people to look at the item not what’s in the background.
Use a neutral background, like a gray color, that will not interfere or compete with your item.
Try to take a detail photo, a close up tight shot that shows the pattern, texture, stitch or accent up close.

Remember: Shopping is a tactile experience, people want to pick up the item, look at it, scrutinize it before spending their hard-earned pennies on something!  Try to take pictures that will give the on-line shopper the sense that they have viewed it from all possible angles and given it the full attention it deserves before buying.

I hope some of this has helped.  Good luck fellow vendors!

Thank you for stopping by and having a look.

The Alchemists Vessel would like to wish you a pleasant Thursday.

The State of the Studio Undressed

Hello Middle of the Week,
Wednesday is here and the topic is usually what is new and going on in the Studio / Shop.

As many of you know my computer was misbehaving for the last couple of weeks.  After much time staring and loading screens and clicking the Restart button at the appropriate time, the new OS X is successfully installed and the computer up to date and everything else is ready to roll!  Pleased about that.

Last weekend was Mid-Summer Treasure Valley Flea Market, although not the venue for me, a good time was had by all.  Due to the event the studio is in disarray and in need of a good sorting out and through things.

However, we are also preparing a couple of fun tutorials.  A video, more than likely presented in segments on how to make a simple pair of earrings.  Once you have the basics down, you’ll be making your own pretties in no time.  We will begin with materials, followed by simple and easy to master techniques that are used in all facets of jewelry making, like making a loop at one end of a headpin and how to use jump rings or other attachment methods to complete the earrings.

I thought it might be fun as well to show the new skills I am learning in class, like Cuttle Bone casting.  This is done with inexpensive materials that you can purchase from your local pet and hardware stores.  Neat, huh?
Since I am feeling like the blog is rather stale and we can’t be all business all the time, let us take another departure from work and wander into my backyard once more.
A couple of weeks ago I was pleasantly surprised to find a Tiding of Magpies in my back yard including a fledgling.  The black and white of their feathers has inspired a necklace that I am working on, but I thought it might be fun to share one or more of the photos.

As not to disturb their refreshments I stood at the back door with the camera lens almost pressed against the glass and set once again at the 13x Zoom.

There were a total of six of them, and although I was unable to catch them all at the same time, each one was individual an unique in their markings.  Here is a most handsome fellow, although they were aware of me, they seemed not to care I was there.
Oops, busted!  This adult caught me taking pictures and chastised me before flying off into the tree further down the backyard.
The fledgling was the last to take off, and the last one to use the birdbath as well.  It is not uncommon for birds to appear in the yard with the feeder set up, but it is a rarity when these magnificent and beautiful creatures arrive and visit for a while.

This little guy still has some of his “baby” feathers.

Thank you for stopping and having a look, and possibly finding a smile cross your face.

The Alchemists Vessel would like to wish you a pleasant Wednesday!

Four Great Gifts to Give 7/17/12

Good Day All,

Tuesday means we look at five neat items that would make good gifts for any occasion, well almost any occasion.  Today I have four as I am short a participant this week.

Without further ado for your shopping enjoyment, Four Great Gifts.  First up a couple of returning shops, Wire Witchery, owned by my personal friend Sarah Shannon, and Green Witch Designs, owned by Shelly Moody another favorite friend of mine.

NOTE: Sarah’s work has become more intricate and complicated.  The piece below is an example of some of the new jewelry items you can find in her shop.

Description: This is an absolutely gorgeous black lip mother of pearl oval bead wrapped with silver plated copper wire. It hangs on an 18″ fine link chain
NOTE: I have a penchant for monsters, the macabre and things that go bump in the night.  These are absolutely adorable and would make a fabulous everyday of daring dangles or just a fun pop of color at Halloween.

Description: These fun little earrings are sure to make someone look twice. Featuring a small skull bead, with red accent beads to really make a pop. Perfect for anyone with an appreciation of the macabre. A nice addition at Halloween, or anytime you want to make a statement

Description: 15-1/2″ long. Truly elegant, slender, slinky, silky silver and black go with everything! Very feminine. Makes a pretty accent to any outfit. May be worn to the office, on an evening out, and with that little black dress. Would make a great birthday present in any of our birthstone glass bead colors.

Silver plated wire is hand coiled, cut, beaded and linked in the European 4-in 1 Chainmaille weave to create this simple and elegant chain.

Description: This sweet, loving original teddy bear is made by Home Time Art. Unable to contain her love she wears her not not only on her sleeve but all over for the world to see. She is accompanied with a certificate of adoption, which is customized with the child’s or adopters name and their choice of name for the new family member soon to join them on their life’s journey.

The Teddy Bears is 12 inches (30.5 Cm) tall from head to toe and are wearing a collard vest and a brimmed hat.

Thank you for stopping in and having a look.

The Alchemists Vessel would like to wish you a pleasant day.
