Guinevere Chainmaille Necklace New Item

Good Morning,

Monday is here, the work week is ahead, and there are five days to get it all right.  Due to a personal situation the blog will be short and not very detailed for these next couple of weeks.  Sometimes you get so busy taking care of business that you forget to take care of yourself, and that can cause down time for the artist.

This morning’s item is very pretty and rather neat.   Available on Etsy: Guinevere.

The chain is woven in two patterns Round and Inverted Round Maille weaves.  Genuine Australian Green Jasper beads are secreted in the chain and accent the main focal point of the necklace.  Silver Rings are also tucked here and there to add stability and another design element the piece.

Most Maille pieces will lay flat, this one has some dimension to it, as the Round Maille weave actually “stands-up” when the piece is worn, giving it a unique and very pretty lace-like look.

Detail can be seen here, a Green Jasper bead has been tucked inside the chain, just a couple of links below are silver rings, captured in the weave.

Detail of focal point, the genuine Jasper beads are a lovely greenish-blue with deeper green inclusions across the surface of the stone.  These are very pretty and may be mistaken for turquoise on occasion. 

 18-1/2″ total length, the piece rests just along the decolletage (decollete) making an attractive collar to jazz up that stuffy Professional Office attire or a dazzling accessory for Date Night.  Also appropriate for period costumes, film, stage and event attire.

Customizable, may be made to desired length or with different beads.  There are two more versions on the workbench awaiting finishing touches, as well as to be photographed for listing and sale.

New Weave Item – Checkered Past

Good Morning,

I hope everyone had a restful and rejuvenating weekend.

This morning’s blog is short and to the point.  New Bracelet now available at handmadeartists.com.

This pretty weave follows the Japanese 4-in-1 pattern.  Accented with pretty Aquamarine Czech Glass beads that alternate along the length of chain.  The finished chain resembles a ladder or checkerboard pattern of little square links.

New Shop Department – Hardwear

Good Morning,

Monday is here and I hope everyone had a lovely Easter Weekend.

The creative process, at times, can be full of inspiration and wonder, at other times it seems to come from whatever is at hand.

This weekend there was a lot of waiting for things to cure and cool. So what’s a girl to do during down time?  Poke around in the garage and see what falls off a shelf.  I have had a repair kit full of nuts, bolts, screws, washers, hardware for quite a while.  Sorting through it, I began to see potential there.  

A jump ring here, a hexagonal nut there, a washer do-dad and viola!  I had a pair of earrings.

Yes, you read that right, these are made out of hardware.  Hanging at 1-1/2″ long from the earlobe, tiny Hexagonal nuts are linked together and end in a Washer charm.  Perfect for a little something to brighten up that boring office suit, a fun date night accessory, or terrific for Steampunk Fashionistas, Bikers and Rocker Babes!  Plus what a surprise when people “WOW!” at the fact that they are made out of hardware.  Light weight and comfortable enough to wear all day.  You won’t even know you have them on.  These are truly a unique pair of earrings.
Hexoginal nuts and washers are brand new from the package and have never bee used in any machinery, tool, equipment or other construction.  Hand washed in amonia and dish-soap, hand sanded to remove any and all sharp edges, tumble polished for a great shine and hand assembled with hand spun, and cut silver plated jump rings.

One of my favorite things about Chainmaille is the versatility and its ability to allow variations to a weave.

The weave below is a variation of Round Maille, which may be woven several different ways depending on your method, but the weave will always come out in the proper pattern.

Upcoming Events

Once again the Treasure Valley Flea Market has opened it’s doors.  The next Market will be February 16th and 17th, 2013.  Mark your calendars, The Alchemists Vessel will be in attendance!

Shameless self promotion.

Recently I have started to participate, instead of just lurk, on the site M.A.I.L, Maille Artisans International League, and have braved the slings and arrows of my fellow maillers and submitted a piece of my work to be included in the site’s Photo Gallery.  I was accepted.  I am excited and thrilled. One of the web’s largest communities and Maille Weave Libraries I am honored to have my little ring included.

I have also submitted a variation of a weave and am in deep discussion with a couple of the Administrators of the site, trying to fix it up so it can be included in the Weave Library as well.  That is definitely exciting!

Little Shop of Artists is still in the running, we are simply waiting on our building so that we can move in and get the Brick and Mortar store up and going!

Also there will be a new Shop coming soon, different from the Alchemists Vessel, it will showcase Metalsmith works only, including, but not limited to Handcrafted creations, and Vintage or Repaired offerings, like this handmade Malachite Ring, currently for sale on Etsy or Handmadeartists.
