What’s New in The Studio – Wire / Jump Ring Selections

Good Morning, 

This weekend I spent time with the supply catalogs and would like to share some of the new materials that will be available for custom work and favorite designs.

Silver, Sterling Silver and Copper are my preferred metals of choice, but gold is requested more often than not.  We have added several sizes of manufactured rings and new wires to our inventory.

Gold (14K) Jump Rings

Now available in several sizes, these pretty rings will be used in a variety of items, including but not limited to our Chainmaille Selection of jewelry.  Look for new items soon, or ask us about a custom design order made especially for you.

Aluminum Rings:

These lovely rings also come in a variety of sizes and have been purchased specifically for Dragonscale Maille pattern bracelets.  Currently available in three colors Red, Black and Gold (Yellow), we will be adding more colors to our selection soon.  Shown here in Red.

 

Stainless Steel Rings:

We have also added Stainless Steel to our selection of wire / jump rings.  Silver in color, stainless steel is great for those that may have metal sensitivities or want a piece that can stand up to heavier wear and tear than the precious metals.  They also make great masculine designs.


A word about Gold:

Gold: All gold jewelry is plated, usually over copper or brass.  Gold is too soft to use for much of anything unless it is mixed or layered over another base metal.  “Rose Gold” is a blend of Gold and Copper, adding the copper creates that pretty red tone in the gold.  Most Gold jewelry is plated at 18K or 14K.  This means that the piece of jewelry is 75 to 58.5% Gold and 25 to 41.5% base metal.  Our jump rings are listed as 14K over brass.  Our gold wire is filled over brass.

Filled vs. Plated:  What does this mean?

Filled wire in gold or silver is simply a denser plate of gold over the base metal.  Plated wire is usually about .15mm of precious metal over a base metal wire (like a sheath),  Filled is usually .25mm of precious metal over a base metal core.

Shop and Studio News

Good Morning,

Today we have a brief look at what’s happening in the shop and in the studio.

As many of you know, or are aware, Shop Small Business Saturday is November 30th this year.  Our scheduled Saturday Jewelry Class will be held depending in attendees.   We have some terrific deals in the shop and we hope that you’ll stop in and say Hello.

We are behind A-1 Video Game Exchange in the lot, between Bob’s Bicycles and Jerry’s State Court Cafe.  A sign sits outside our door when the whether permits and the gate is decorated with bright fabric flowers.  Just East of N. Cole Road, or just West of Liberty on Fairview.

Holiday Hours and Classes at Little Shop of Artists

Good Morning,

Today we have a quick look at the Holiday Schedule and Classes in-store at Little Shop of Artists.

During the Holidays the shop is extending the hours of operation customers and weather permitting.  

Monday – Tuesday: The Shop is closed
Wednesday – By Appointment*
Thursday – Saturday 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Sunday 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Every Saturday from 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. we teach 
Jewelry-Making 101.
Class Cost is $30.00 per person, attendee provides supplies
Cost: $40.00 per person with Shop Supplied Materials

Saturday November 23rd, we hold our first class.  I am excited.

We also teach Intermediate to Advanced Classes or Specialty Classes.  December’s Specialty Class: 
Bird’s Nest  Wire Wrapped Earrings and Pendant set.
Materials Provided by Instructor: Sarah Shannon of Wire Witchery
Class Cost: $40.00 for a 2-1/2 session.

All classes are Make and Take.

The Shop will be closed Thursday, November 28th, 2013, Thanksgiving Day.  We would like to encourage you to NOT SHOP on Thursday, spend that time with family, friends, and loved ones.  Everybody deserves a holiday, make sure they get one, and do not shop on Thanksgiving Day.

We will return Friday, November 29, 2013, through the weekend.

I would however like to encourage you to join us for the day on Shop Small Business Saturday, November 30, 2013.  The shop will have some great deals, and now through November 30th, stop in for 10% to 20% discounts on all jewelry in the store, including, Chainmaille, Sterling Silver and Genuine Gemstones, to Wire Witchery’s lovely wire wrapped work.

Good Morning,

Last Weekend was The First Annual Haunted Open House and Harvest Market.  A good time was had by all, an d for a first time out show, it wasn’t too bad.

This morning The Alchemists Vessel would like to invite you to join us this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, October, 11 – 13, 2013, for the First Annual Haunted Open House and Harvest Market.

 

We are very excited to be hosting and participating this year.  Vendors with in-store displays are already there, and we are pleased to introduce the general public to some wonderful artists and great gifts, or that special something you just can’t be with out.

The Market will be held indoors and out. Yesterday was a gorgeous day at the store, the sun was out, it was warm and a light breeze came through every now and again, I am hoping the weather holds through the show weekend.

*Market Vendors will be set up on the other side of the tree to the left and stretch across the lot from East to West.  Street signs will also point shoppers to the event.  A-1 Video Game Exchange will be participating as well.

There is some light Dark Decor in the store as we get into the Spirit if the Holiday.  We have kept the decor to a minimum as not to interfere with shoppers or vendors indoor tables.  Some of the decorations will be set up outside or made available to vendors if they wish to have a little spooky in their space.

We are looking forward to the show, visiting with vendors, talking to other local talented folks, and chatting with shoppers to help them find that perfect piece or gift they have been looking for.

One Dark Night Tibetan Silver Skull Motif and Glass Bead Necklace Set

 

18″ total length. This adorable and very shiny Gothic / Day of The Dead (Dia de los Muertos) themed necklace set sparkles and gleams with faceted glass beads in Black, Smoky Purple, and Silver Bi-cone shapes. The focal point is a feminine “Tibetan Silver” Pendant measuring 1-1/2″ x 3-4″ of a stylized skull clutching a rose between the teeth. Finished with a white metal chain for durability and Lobster Claw clasp.

Although the earrings are not an exact match, they carry on the flower motif with a cute daisy atop their grinning heads. Finished with Black and Smoky Purple glass beads and suspend from Silver Plated Fish Hook ear wires.

*Designers Note: “Tibetan Silver” usually contains little or no silver whatsoever, if there is any silver content in the piece it is about one or two percent. It resembles an antiqued silver piece and is highly popular in jewelry creation for today’s current fashion trends. It is mostly Tin and Zinc, very much like pewter, and is usually nickel and lead free, due to allergies to these metals.

Zombie Spring Necklace Glass and Tibetan Silver Set

18″ – Fun and fresh in green glass beads and “Tibetan Silver” Skull and Rose Pendant with not-so matching earrings that carry the flower motif with a cute daisy perched atop their smiling faces.

Tibetan Silver usually contains no silver what so ever, if there is any silver content in the metal at all, it is no more than 1 or 2%. Tibetan Silver is an alloy, usually Tin or Zinc, and is nickel and lead free due to allergies to this metals.

Glass bi-cone shaped beads are graduated in size and range from a pretty emerald to a pastel color. A single link chain completes the necklace.
