Bio:
 Hello and welcome ~ My name is April. I am a glass bead maker and jewelry designer. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York gives me the style and flair unique to my jewelry. I’ve always been intrigued with glass. When I was young I remember seeing glass artists along the Coney Island boardwalk. I loved seeing the sparkling delicate sculptures they made. Today I am pleased create my own glass beads and incorporate them in my jewelry designing. I use a technique called “lampworking” to make my glass beads.

New Items and a Word or Two About Change

Good Morning,

Monday is here and the workweek begins.

This morning, I have one new item to share with you.
 
Today we will be doing things a bit differently.  Etsy, in its infinite stupidity has managed to destroy my on-line business in one fell swoop.  Long gone are the fabulous handmade artists shops and fun shopping experience.  Now you are lost in a sea of manufactured $2.00 garbage and crap made in China.  You might as well be shopping at Walmart.

I still offer the Etsy shop, as well as another Venue that isn’t new, but is more intimate and truly devoted to the handmade artisan and their work.

Last bit of news which I may have already talked about, but being busy may have forgotten.  Mind like a steel sieve.  I will be opening a Brick and Mortar location in the next several months.  I have a location that just kind of fell into my lap, (Thank You Michelle and Fred Deller of A-1 Video, Boise), and am looking for more artists to fill the space available.  Looking for Painters, Ceramic Artists, Wood Carvers, Sculptors.  Know an artist looking for a physical venue to showcase their work?  Direct them my way!  So there is no confusion, this is a PAID Participation, artist will pay a set price for their “Booth Space” within the shop and all monies in regards to sales are theirs to keep.  Artists may work their booth, or leave it in shop as there will be an On-Duty-Sales-Person at all times! (Me).  More details will be coming soon.

A mother and daughter team of very talented and creative people.  Debbi is a stay-at-home artist / grandmother, and Amanda holds a degree in Graphic Design, and designs all the banners and graphics for the shop and blog.  They offer hand-crafted home decor, and more, this shop has it all.  Lots of unique and interesting things for your home, or gifts when you want something that is special.  These gals are fun, friendly and as Debbi puts it, “having the time of her life”, and it shows in their work.

Reverse Silhouette Painting on Glass

Product Details:  This reverse silhouette painting came about when I found this frame.  It has a small chip giving it a vintage feel.  And when I came across this shape of a Holly Hobby girl in one of my vintage cross stitch pattern books, I knew it needed to be created.  I painted the silhouette on the glass, and then just flipped and added a spacer between the glass and the back, and here she is…a 7×9 beauty.

Straw Fall Floral Wreath with Pine cone

Product Details:  A straw wreath wrapped with a 2″ rust ribbon and bow to accent the yellow and orange silk sunflowers.   Then I added some leaves, berries, and a pine cone to bring the beauty of fall into your home.  The wreath measures 15″ across and is 4 1/2″ deep.

Product Details:  I found this golden sea shell in our local consignment shop, and it was just begging for a new life.  So I added some beautiful glass beads and a gold tone lobster claw clasp, and now it’s the focal point of this princess lenght necklaces.  It measures 19″ from end to end.

Studio Syllabus for Today

Happy Wednesday,

Here we are the middle of the week, not quite the weekend and almost too late to start a work week project.  Today’s post is short and sweet as I suddenly find myself with a multitude of things going on and all kinds of doings which require my attention.

Let’s have a look at what I have been doing.  I offer a variety of  Chainmaille items, from Earrings to Watches and most stuff in between, and tried a new way to bead the Full Persian Weave and I am most happy with it.  Reminiscent of the “Dragons Back” pattern, “Leap Frog” incorporates one bead at alternating intervals down the length of chain.  Flexible for a comfortable fit,  substantial enough to make a nice statement piece, so in fashion this season.

The chain may be turned so beads rest on top or face forward

This pattern is available in bracelets and watch bands, they are not heavy but do have a little weight.  Customizable in your favorite metal and bead color of choice.

Other bracelet patterns to choose from: 

Dragon’s Back:  Shown with Emerald Czech glass beads silver-lined beads and Silver plated jump rings.

Beads are grouped together and ungulate through the chain.

Marching or Walking Beads

Beads walk across the surface of the chain.

Any and all patterns are available in the metal and bead color of your choice.

Tiger Lilies Original 14 x 18 Acrylic Water Color Painting

Description:  Tiger lilies is an original gallery-wrapped canvas acrylic painting with seven waterblooms. The acrylic background has three bold sections of dark khaki, brown, and muted yellow. Black vines gracefully circle large orange lilies and small orange and yellow buds. Each waterbloom consists of two layers, each hand painted (front and back), cut, and molded. This painting was inspired by my childhood memories of wild tiger lilies growing nearby my home. The painting is signed on the front and back. I hope my art brings you happiness.

Waterblooms provide a three-dimensional look to the art, making my style very unique.

Hope – Original 12 x 24 Acrylic and Watercolor Painting  

 

Description:  Hope is a white acrylic background with black acrylic leafy swirls. A pale blue shading is very lightly added around the canvas. Each waterbloom has multiple layers varying in colors, from green, blue, pink, turquoise, yellow, etc. I feel the painting’s stark colors of black and white oppose nicely the rich hues of the watercolor flowers, focusing the attention on the waterblooms- the true art of this piece. The painting is signed on the front and back.

Red Holiday Sled with Penguins and An Igloo

Description: This is a hand painted and decorated pine sled with two penguins and an igloo. The penguins are sitting in the snow with presents all around them. The sled is a cheery holiday red with white runners. Glittering snowflakes add some sparkle. This versatile sled can be placed under the tree, hung on the wall, stood in a corner or placed any where you want some holiday color. This sled will become a treasured holiday decoration you’ll love for many years. It would also be an exceptional gift to give a loved one.

For the sled I used acrylic paint and three coats of varnish to ensure durability. The holly and the snowflakes are glued on. I added a red and gold tie for hanging.

Great effort has gone into accurately describing and photographing products, but please note color representation alters depending on individual screen settings.
Packaged with lots of care and love and will ship 1-2 days after payment is received.

I promised a surprise, I did.  This is so fun and such a unique and wonderful piece, that I just can’t help but sneak it in here.  While writing this morning I found this great item at Diana Ir’s shop.  Just in time for Halloween!

Ribcage Pendant – ON ORDER

Description: Ribcage pendant – can be made to order. The images are of an already sold pendant which I made last summer.
It’s a pendant that will definitely add a bit of spook and quirk to your look. perfect for fans of the macabre.

It is made entirely of a thicker copper wire that was wrapped with thin copper wire.
The pendant in the photos was about 4.5 cm long and 3 cm wide, but it can be made larger if requested.

Dear Customers and Flea Market Attendees,

After much pondering, evaluation, and tough decisions it is time to adapt new ideas, modify the Shop, and fill out the inventory.  Changes within the Treasure Valley Flea Market, and the fact that I seem to have reached my sales audience, has lead me to adapt several more alterations, I will be appearing at the listed show dates, and that is all.  I will be seeking a new permanent venue whether through a Consignment Shop or other Brick and Mortor Shopping location around the Treasure Valley and Boise area.  I will continue to be an active member in the other Fairs and venues, time permitting.  This is not an easy decision or one I make lightly.  You can still find us on the web to shop, and available by phone for Customer Service, Custom Orders or General Questions.  Business Phone Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday – Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday.

Swarovski Flip Flops

Description:  These cutsie flip flops are made using 4mm swarovski crystals in complementary colors with a few 11/0 seed beads for the little flower on top.  These are a delight to make and to wear, lightweight and will get you all kinds of “oooh where did you get those” comments.

I have several pair in inventory of vayring color combinations and these can be special ordered as long as I have the colors in stock.

Jasper Pendant
 

Description: The specific type of this jasper stone is unknown. It has beautiful greens and brown colorations through the stone and is wrapped in a copper wire.  Stone measures 1.25 square and we have set it on its toe. Jasper is a form of chalcedony believed to be created in volcanic eruptions and lava and formed by the flow of the lava.  This is a one of a kind pendant.

Netted Butterfly

Description: Beautiful butterflies, using 11/0 pastel mint seed beads as well as gold tone metallic 11/0 seed beads.  This creates the illusion of a butterfly with the 4mm glass pearl.  This bracelet is entirely handmade including the clasp which is created using the Peyote stitch and the tubular Peyote stitch.  Bracelet is  8.5 inches in length but special orders for specific sizes are welcomed.

One day I was to go to a Halloween party and asked my daughter to take some of the beads and make me something to wear. She did and that was the beginning. She began playing around with the beads and we began to buy more and more beads. The more I watched her play around, the more intrigued I became until one day I started playing around with them again. This did not take long at all and I was hooked. I have not stopped since. I began researching techniques and learning all I could about beading and checking out what others were doing and then realized that I was no longer depressed and that God had been working in my life with those beads for many many years. He continues to guide me and provide me with inspiration and I am thankful that He did not give up on me.

New Items At The Alchemists Vessel

Today there are three new items to look at in the shop, and one encore upon request, more should be coming this week and next as we gear up for the Holiday Season.  Custom orders are always welcome.  We like questions, if you have one we will do our best to answer it for you, and provide that special gift you’ve been looking for.

Sterling Silver and Genuine Turquoise Hand Stamped Cross

Description: 21″ total length, the Sterling Silver cross is 1 x 3/4″ at widest point, this pretty little cross is hand forged from start to finish. Cut from a Sterling Silver sheet and hand stamped with an arrow like design for a Southwestern appeal. Hand cleaned and polished. Some of the tool marks are visible on the back along with the “Sterling” mark. Hand set with a genuine Turquoise cabochon and matching beads along the chain.

The chain is Sterling Silver 1.5mm Fine Figaro pattern and finished with a Sterling Silver Lobster Claw Clasp.

Arrives boxed ready for gift giving.

Wish Bead Hematite and Sterling Silver Necklace

Description: Single bead chains were called “Wish Necklaces” when I was a girl. When the clasp reached the front of the chain, and touched the bead, you moved the clasp back and made a wish as you did so. Reminiscent of those more innocent days is this simple and barely there necklace that is just right with everything. Tailored enough for the office, chic enough for Date Night, or a simple and understand chain for a casual outing.

18″ long, Sterling Silver 1.0mm thread-like chain, clasp and wire jump rings hold a single high sheen genuine Hematite bead. [This bead is not magnetic]. Hematite gets its name from the red rust like inclusions it has before it is polished to the beautiful steel blue finish, it can also be a red color when found in drier areas.

Rose Quartz Riot – Bracelet, Earrings and Necklace Set

Description: Beautiful genuine Rose Quartz (not dyed) is carved into donuts accentuating their fabulous pastel pink color and crystalline variations. Perfect for that feminine touch you’ve been looking for, strong enough for the office, girlie enough for dress-up.

Studio Switch – Market Season Begins

 

Good Morning!

Wednesday arrives bright and beautiful, some of the smoke from the northern and surrounding area wild fires has been blown out of the valley.  Clear and haze-free sunny skies is the order of the day.

There is not much happening in the studio this week, except there are beads and bits of metal everywhere, as we fill out the racks, take inventory, clean, pack, prepare, and check the list at least three times to be sure all is ready for the Season Opener of Treasure Valley Flea Market.  (No, I’m not going to post the commercial.)

Yes, indeed!  It’s that time again.  More than just a Flea Market, there are artisans from all over the Treasure Valley area, antiques, collectables, glass-works, wood-works, and of course, garage goodies of all kinds can be found.  Personally I wish they wouldn’t call it a “Flea Market”, there is so much more, I think the “Treasure Valley Market or Bazaar” would be a better descriptive title.

Now that I have your undivided attention.

Can’t attend this weekend?  That’s OK, you’ll miss out on free chocolate though.  The Market is open one weekend a month, the dates are below.  Put them on your calendar and come on down and say Hello!  Admission is $2.00 at the door.

Sept 8-9, 2012 – This Weekend!
Oct 6-7, 2012 – Halloween Jewelry will be on sale!
Nov 10-11, 2012 – Christmas is coming!  Get that custom order in!
Jan 12-13, 2013 – I am not sure if T.A.V. will attend this market.
Feb 16-17, 2013 – We’ll be there to whip the winter blues away
Mar 23-24, 2013 – Spruce up for Easter
Apr 13-14, 2013 – The Tax Man cometh!  Spend it, before he gets it!
