The week is almost over, and it has been a busy last couple of days.

This morning I would like to share the latest listing for a new ring,  at Blackbird Metalworks, as well as sharing one of the Jo-Ann’s Class projects that you can learn to make when you sign up for the Brochure Jewelry Making or the Trend Classes lead by Alixandra of The Alchemsits Vessel and Blackbird Metalworks.

Sky – Sterling Silver and Genuine Turquoise Ring

This pretty little ring has a genuine Natural Turquoise cabochon, hand set with sterling silver bezel strip and .5mm twisted gallery wire, shank is sterling silver and hand soldered to the cabochon setting.  A size US 6-1/2, this is a feminine and very attractive little accent ring.

The stone is not cracked, it has been left in it’s natural shape and state, instead of being shaped, filled or polished with resin, it has been set just as it was.

The ring below is made from 20g Sterling Silver plated and 24 kt dyed copper jewelry wire and was made using a variety of glass beads.

Jo-Ann’s has cancelled this class, being as it almost the end of February, but fear not, Trend classes and private lessons can be arranged by contacting Jo-Ann Fabric and Crafts for Trend and Brochure classes, or contacting The Alchemists Vessel for your group, party or private lessons.

If you do not know your ring size you may try the following method.

Tie a piece of sting or twist tie around your finger loosely, allow it to fit, but slip on and off easily. (string or yarn works best)

Slide the string off your finger.

Cut the string just below the know and measure it against a ruler. The average size 7-1/2 to 8 ring will measure about 2-1/2″ in length. If you require a larger ring, please indicate your ring size, or include the measurement in inches you took. This will ensure a proper and secure fit.

Description: Micro Maille is named for it’s size. At dimensions smaller than a dime, this stunning and feminine bracelet is an eye-catcher. Tailored enough for the office, great for date night, or that casual weekend out fit that needs a little jazzing up, the simple design will go with everything in your wardrobe.

8-3/4″ long, this average length bracelet is made from Sterling Silver plated (over brass), wire, that is hand-spun, cut and linked in the European 4 – in 1 chainmaille pattern. For those of you that have been following along with the sporadic posts, may have guessed by now that I am attempting to open a physical location for local and not so local Artists.

We have a great location off Fairview, in Boise.

Instead of calling it the location, it will now be known as “Little Shop of Artists“.   Not a consignment shop, but a vendor venue.  Participating artists, can rent space for a month or longer, or have a “permanent booth” in the store.  Perks include a physical address, a place to send customers to shop besides on-line, and eventually we hope to be involved in some of the larger Fairs and outdoor venues, like Hyde Park Street Fair or Art in the Park.  We are not involved or connected with or part of Etsy Street Teams.  This Shop is independently owned and operated by the participating artists.

The building is being prepared and cleaned out, so I can get in there and paint and freshen up the space then we will have vendors move in, and then a Grand Opening!  Look for the actual shop to open sometime after the Holidays, after all there are only two more months in 2012!

We are also looking forward to having weekend outdoor markets on the property when the weather permits.

New Flower Bracelets in the Shop

Happy October 1st, everyone.  Monday is here, so is Fall, and it is cold in here in this morning!

This weekend the Treasure Valley Flea Market is happening, and then once more, November 10th and 11th.  These will be the last shows I am attending this year.  We have on-going specials and sales this market.  Come on down, say Hello, or shop some of the vendors.

This morning’s new item is a very pretty and feminine Chainmaille bracelet.  Earrings to match can be made or found in the shop.  The Japanese 4-in-1 or  6-in-1 weaves use a ratio of large to small rings to create unique and interesting patterns, zig zags, flat sheets, and round objects can be formed using this weave.

These flowers are the size of a quarter, light weight and fun to wear.  Single flowers make an earring, and when linked together, a consistent chain.

This piece is two tone, one side is Silver the other Gunmetal tone rings, and alternating silver and gunmetal joining rings

The opposite side of the bracelet,  may be worn Silver side up or down for different looks.

Five flowers and a toggle clasp create this 7-1/4″ bracelet.  These may be made to desired length, using a variety of metals for single or two tone / double sided bracelets.  Precious metals are available per customer request.

When worn it creates an attractive band. (Ignore my arm).

Welcome to the beginning of the week.  The Dog Days of Summer are winding down and the air carries a little chill this morning,  and the colors of the season are soon to change as well.

 

The Flea Market is coming up September 8th, and 9th, that’s next weekend and we have been busy preparing and polishing all the goodies for the show!

 

Which means Labor Day is right around the corner, like next Monday, and Halloween is close behind, get those custom orders in to be sure you get your treats in time!

Shop New Items

Happy Monday!

Good morning.  Even in the midst of preparations for the Market next weekend, there is still time to make and list new items in the shop.  This morning there are four or five new things to peruse and perhaps purchase at your leisure.

First is an example of an Up-cycled item.  Several broken and tangled necklaces were taken apart, salvaged and scavenged for usable parts and pieces, then re-designed and strung as an entirely new piece.

Talisman

Genuine Gemstones include: Amethyst, Malachite, Black Agate, Aventurine and Hematite.  Strung on Sterling Silver beading wire with a Sterling Silver Gothic style Hook clasp.  An hand-set Amethyst crystal is held in a tiny Sterling Silver Dragon’s (Bird’s) claw is the focal piece of the necklace.

Here the claw detail may be seen, surrounded by Sterling Silver and Amethyst spacer beads, with Black Agate crescent moons and Hematite stars.  Body of the necklace is accented with Malachite hearts and Aventurine stars, as well.

This pattern, although not new, is now created in a single color metal.  Half-Persian 4 -in- 1 weave, in Silver Plated and Gunmetal wire (jump rings).  Slinky, sultry and unisex, these are light weight and perfect for casual or evening attire.

Tuesday is upon us and as a member of the Handmade Artists Blog Ring it is always a pleasure to feature one the shop owners.

This week is Rasmussen Gems and Jewelry, LLC, Lapidary and Metalsmith, Dr. John Rasmussen.

John Atwell Rasmussen is the lapidary, gemologist and artisan jeweler / metalsmith. All cabochons are hand cut in our lapidary.

Dr. Rasmussen truly creates some interesting and unique pieces in his shop.

John Atwell Rasmussen was educated in Geology at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. He then taught geology and after ten years switched professional course to prehospital medicine. He retired from emergency medical services and is pursuing his love of rocks, minerals and gems as the lapidary and jeweler at Rasmussen Gems and Jewelry LLC. He has been educated in Gemology and Jewelry Design and Repair at: International Gem Society, Gemological Institute of America and Penn Foster Career School.
