Featured Artists Blog Posts

Hello,

The blog ring has returned and this week I am most honored and excited to be the Featured Artist.   As I post things from the Studio everyday I thought today might be fun to turn the tables on the blog ring.

Below you will find links to those blogs that have featured The Alchemists Vessel this week, in hope of inspiring you to find a favorite you might like to read or follow as well as The Alchemists Vessel of course.

Week of April 7th – Featured Artist

Pam, my friend, and talented gal, not only has lots of lovely things to say, she also has links to her shops and fellow blogs.   Find her wonderful beaded creations on the Handmade Artists site.

April has some amazing Lampwork jewelry, don’t just stop at her blog, check out the beautiful items in her shop as well.

HAF Artist Feature – The Alchemists Vessel

My gal pal Debbi, I love this blog, not only does she feature artists and her own works, she tells stories and has them in “chapter” or part form (and is a clever writer), and she allows you a peek into her life outside her studio.

Handmade Artist Feature – The Alchemists Vessel

Teresa is also a jewelry designer and has her own shop on handmade artists as well.  She has fun things to check out on her sidebar menus, as well as in her shop.  Take a moment to check it out.

Don’t forget to check out the sidebar menus here for links to the shops, blogs and other sites.  There is always something new going on somewhere!

Friday Photos

Hello there,

I am at a loss for something to write today, I have racked my wee brain and I got nothing!  Instead I thought I would share a photo or two.

My friend Lucritia Wolfblack sent me this wonderful web card on my facebook wall, and I completely agree.

My very dear friend and sometimes mentor, Ralph Cordero of Studio RGC is one talented and amazing sculptor.  His items can be found here: studiorgc or you can find his goodies on Etsy.
Here are a couple of his items that I just adore.  They are so detailed and just amazing to look at.  I always see something I missed before when viewing his work.

These are so cool, I don’t know if they have holes in the botton, but they would make awesome pencil or pen toppers!  I think the green one is glow-in-the-dark.  Gruesome, but I like them.

Handmade Artists, A Site For Sore Artists

Happy Friday,

This morning I would like to share some of the wonderful things that handmadeartists.com has to offer.

Many of you claim you love etsy, Ok that’s fair.  However the big orange E has turned away from its original goal, and become the Walmart of the internet.  Such a  shame.  Many artists, artisans, and makers of beautiful things have jumped etsy’s ship, or been forcibly removed from the site or other sites due to one perceived infraction or another.  I would like to show you how simple it is for you as a buyer or seller to use Handmade Artists.  Buyer accounts are always free!

This is the Home Page or the top of it.  From here you can access all of the neat stuff on the site.  The Categories menu takes you to all the fabulous and must have items that vendors have for sale.

Let me first say that their service is absolutely impeccable!  Seller or buyer account holders will always receive the highest level of quality customer service and care that I have ever had the pleasure to experience.  They have also upgraded and expanded their servers, this has allowed for a faster site along with room to grow.

Buyers and others you will not be disappointed.  Structured very much like etsy, they have many amenities, like the Forum, Seller Shops, Highlights, and a Blog right there on the home page so you can keep up with the latest trends and advice or just reading about a topic that interests you.

You do have to sign up, which is easy, simple and super quick.

For the artists, if you are unsatisfied with etsy or other sites, art fire or what have you, take a look at what handmade artists has to offer:
Your Shop account is just $5.00 a month or $50.00  a year.  That is cheaper than listing 20 items on etsy and re-listing them every four months for a year.  A real value for the money, and you can list a lot of items, I won’t say unlimited, there is a cap, but I don’t think any one is going to list 10,000 or more items so it might as well be unlimited.  Best part is, your listing never expires, as long as your monthly shop fee is paid, your item is there forever!  Bonus!

The forum, talk about friendly, happy people.  Got a question, you will get an answer, have a problem, there is support, just want to hang out and chat, yup, they have that too.  There is even a scheduled forum chat every Thursday night.

Sign Up is easy, and although there is not a “transfer” files button, this gives you an opportunity to list your items fresh.  The item page is quick, easy and intuitive! Plus there are all kinds of categories in which to list your item, choose the one that is right for your item.  Get in now while it is still small.  578 shops and growing everyday!  Also a roll by or marquis is included, and your shop will appear in the list below on the home page!

Sellers and Buyers, worried about security and your information?   The site is safe, secure, and uses Pay Pal.  I myself have made several sales and have found it to be a simple and hassle free process.  I know, I know, some of you have had issues with pay pal.  Don’t forget that many of the artists are willing to make other arrangements to make sure the item you desire gets to you!

Highlights.  What is a highlight?  If you have used Etsy or looked at a friends “Treasury” you know what a Highlight is.  Created by Sellers and Buyers alike,  20 items are chosen from around the site and compile a list of favorites, give it a theme, or use it to enter one of the many contests the site hosts.

Selected items from the winner of Highlight Contest #29, the prize was a $25.00 Gift Certificate to any of the shops on Handmade Artists.

Let’s talk about Promotion.  You know the squeaky wheel gets the grease, and are there some squeaky wheels over there.  You can only promote yourself so much; but at Handmade Artists, they do it for you as well.  Your items are shared by the powers that be and forum members as well.  They post / share things on Facebook, Pinterest, have a Google Community page, and you can feature yourself on their blog (just fill out the questionnaire and watch Kimberly turn in to a wonderful article all about YOU and YOUR SHOP!)  The perks are almost endless, and the site is just a lot of fun too.

Participate in the Blog Ring, sign up to contribute to the site’s blog.  Get connected with other artists in your area, post a photo of your newest item and watch the shares roll out.

Frankly there is no better place to sell or be a seller on the internet.  Buyers, all this is available to you as well, you don’t have to make things to play on the site.  Join the Forum, see what those clever and crafty people are up to, throw out suggestions, talk about your favorite pet.  Whatever, the forum is there to cultivate communication and community.

I would also like to mention that this year Handmade Artists was nominated for a Shorty Award.  An award given by Twitter for the use of its site to promote small business on Social Platforms. Handmade Artists came in 8th.  Not too shabby.

Weekend Art Shows Review

Good Morning,

Happy Monday to you all.

This weekend I attended two shows.  The Flea Market, at which I am usually a vendor, held nothing new, but it was fun and enjoyable experience being on the other side of the booth.  Missing the Saturday crowd for a Sunday morning, it was a pleasant couple of hours perusing the aisles.  The vendors are friendly, much of the stuff for sale is still the Knickknacks and garage-box-clutter of stuff you usually see on the tables.

I also attended Art in the Bar.  Held at the Knitting Facorty Concert House in beautiful downtown Boise, Idaho, and presented by Dead Bird Local Art’s Framing, Boise Weekly and featuring the artists of Green Chutes Artists Co-Op.

It was a nice afternoon.  Stopping by after the Flea Market, the Knitting Factory itself is fairly small, or perhaps I should say “intimate” venue.  The event was free and opened to all ages.  The bar was available to those of age, but I was not interested in partaking.

Although many of the artists were fascinating, the air and attitude of some in attendance was a complete turn off to the work.  There were some that were more than willing to chat, but felt it was necessary to bash the person in the space / exhibit next to them.  Maybe beer later eased some of the tension.

It was a successful event and one that I would like to see continue.  Well done, nicely laid out in the small and split level venue, it was a terrific way to spend a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon.

Thank you for stopping by and having a read.

The Alchemists Vessel would like to wish you a pleasant day.

Product Details:  A Horse of different colors was created  with thoughts of one of our favorite movies.  This hand quilted, hand beaded ACEO depicts familiar scenes all wrapped up in a 3 3/4″ x 2 3/4″ ACEO, a bit off from the traditional 3 1/2″ x 2 1/2″ ACEO’s.  Art Cards, Editions and Originals are an affordable way to own a piece of original art.

Hand beaded and hand quilted using a variety of glass seed beads, a vintage crystal( guess who this stand for!), acrylic flowers, crocheted chain,  a piece of confetti, and of course the horse of many colors hand painted acrylic button.   Made with 2 pieces of complimentary green fabric with a very low loft batting inbetween.
A fun little piece to create and for you to enjoy.

Besides yarn and bead work, Kris also works in stained glass.

What Kris says about her shop Reflections By Lisianblue

“Each  stained glass wind chime and  hand painted ornaments are carefully designed and  hand crafted with the idea that they will be one of a kind creations,  and will not be reproduced.   The small fetish bears and chili sun catchers  are the only items that are reproduced, hand cut one at a time.  Depending on the glass even these can become a unique creation, as the  striated and mottled glass is never the same.”

An original artistic one of a kind glass ornament makes a wonderful gift for the ornament collector or someone you know that you  just don’ know quite what to give them!  Especially for the Southwest design lover.

I live in Meadville, PA and love to make items that are useful as well as fun. This is why I enjoy making baby and children items so much! I can use my imagination to come up with unique things that babies and children will love to play with.

Along with sewing, I also love to cross stitch, read and ride on our motorcycle.

But what does she make?  You name it, she’ll make it.  Baby Bibs, and burp clothes, blankets, cases and covers for your electronics, purses, totes, banners, hair accessories, there are fabricated items on hand, and she accepts custom orders as well.  Got a Natal need, check out Lil’ Bit Sassy.  My goodness her list does go on!  Whew!

The Gifts of Giving

Happy Tuesday,

Christmas is just a week away and today instead of offering shopping venues and present ideas, I would like to take a moment to discuss other ways to give and be in the Spirit of the Holiday without spending money (well maybe a little), or rampant consumerism.

I’m not even talking handmade items that you can whip up at the last minute.  I am talking about the gift of giving, giving of yourself, your time, your smile, a kind word, a helping hand.

This time of year there are lots and lots of pleas for your hard earned dollars for this or that charity, cause or fundraising eventInstead of writing a check, why not offer your time, volunteer to serve a meal or two at a soup kitchen, offer your gently used blankets, or clothing your kids have out grown to shelters, grab an extra bag of cat or dog food when doing your own shopping and drop it off at the local animal shelter, put a toy in the Toys for Tots bin.  These are simple small acts that will be felt and appreciated in ways that you can only image.

Be kind to each other, let some one go ahead of you in line, smile just because you are capable of doing so.  People are rushed and hurried this time of year, take a moment to breath, slow down, instead of shouting at the idiot that just cut you off, focus on the song on the raido, sing at the top of your lungs, you’ll feel better, and it’s better for you.  Sit down and have your favorite beverage and write your friends a letter, I said a letter, not an e-mail, a letter, with pen and paper.  Remember those?  A short “I was thinking about you” note is always more than welcome and a lovely surprise.

I know in this day and age it is a risk talking to a stranger, or offering assistance, put if we all did just one little thing, one small act of kindness a day, without thinking about ourselves or what we’ll possibly get out of it, the world would be a gentler, better place to inhabit.

Thank you for stopping by and having a read.

The Alchemists Vessel would like to wish you a pleasant day.
