Featured Artists – Brooklyn Bead Goddess

Good Morning,

This morning we feature April, the Brooklyn Bead Goddess, of  Handmade Artists.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, April’s love of Lampworking or “flameworking” glass, began when she was a young girl wandering the boardwalks of Coney Island and watching the Glass Artists there create their amazing, detailed and fragile sculptures.  This life-long love affair with glass is apparent from her incredible pieces.  She takes the time to learn new things, materials and techniques and incorporates then into her designs.

She is also a member of The International Organization for Self-Representing Artists in Jewelry Design.  SRAJD stands for Self-Representing Artist Jewelry Designer. A SRAJD member sells jewelry they designed and created. They are not permitted to sell mass produced jewelry or jewelry that hasn’t been made by themselves.

When you purchase from an SRAJD member, you are buying directly from and supporting the artist.

That being said, let’s take a look at some of her stunning pieces.

Lampwork Earrings Handmade Glass Beads Handcrafted Wearable Art Jewelry SRA SRAJD

Product Details:

Handmade brown and green glass beads made by melting glass in a torch flame. I love the contrast of these two colors. Bottom brown bead has a green swirl design, top brown bead has raised green dots and drops of crystal clear glass on each dot. Intricate, one of a kind pair of earrings.
Sterling silver ball beads on top, middle and bottom. Sterling silver wire wrapped onto a soldered jump ring connected to Sterling silver french ear wires.
Measures from top of ear wire to bottom 1 1/2 inches.
These lampwork glass beads are made by myself in a torch flame. They are digitally kiln annealed for added strength and durability. I clean the bead holes myself using a special dremel diamond drill bit. They are closely inspected before using in my designs. I take pride in my work and you will too when you wear a piece of Wearable Art.
I am a registered Self Representing Artist (SRA) member number G-122 and registered Self Representing Artist Jewelry Designer (SRAJD) number 2147.

Lampwork Necklace Handcrafted Glass Beads Handmade Artisan Jewelry SRA SRAJD

Product Details:
The focal bead on this necklace takes patience and a long time to create. It’s a hollow glass lampwork bead. I’ve added handmade white squiggle designs over the blue transparent glass. Copper bead caps on each side. Shades of blue and white glass have been used in the twenty lampwork glass beads throughout the design. Each one made by melting glass in a torch fire flame. 
This necklace also has four unique blue goldstone beads along with the iridescent gray pearl beads.  
Large fancy sterling silver toggle clasp closure. 
Measures 23 inch neckline.
Sterling silver crimp beads and wire protectors used. 
All the lampwork glass beads I use are handmade by myself by melting glass in a torch flame. The Moretti Glass / Effetre Glass glass I use is Made in Italy and imported to America. I also like to use CIM lampwork glass. My beads are digitally kiln annealed for added strength and durability. Product Details:

Handmade Glass Bracelet with fifteen handcrafted lampwork beads. Each one has been made by me, one at a time in a torch flame. I used shades of browns, beige, peach, white and creamsicle. Decorative designs were then added for a unique look. Topaz/Orange iridescent swarovski crystals added with small sterling silver beads. Toggle clasp closure is sterling silver.
Measures 6 3/4 inside
and end to end is 8 inches

Studio News Ring – Ring

Happy Wednesday!

The week is almost over, and it has been a busy last couple of days.

This morning I would like to share the latest listing for a new ring,  at Blackbird Metalworks, as well as sharing one of the Jo-Ann’s Class projects that you can learn to make when you sign up for the Brochure Jewelry Making or the Trend Classes lead by Alixandra of The Alchemsits Vessel and Blackbird Metalworks.

Sky – Sterling Silver and Genuine Turquoise Ring

This pretty little ring has a genuine Natural Turquoise cabochon, hand set with sterling silver bezel strip and .5mm twisted gallery wire, shank is sterling silver and hand soldered to the cabochon setting.  A size US 6-1/2, this is a feminine and very attractive little accent ring.

The stone is not cracked, it has been left in it’s natural shape and state, instead of being shaped, filled or polished with resin, it has been set just as it was.

The ring below is made from 20g Sterling Silver plated and 24 kt dyed copper jewelry wire and was made using a variety of glass beads.

Jo-Ann’s has cancelled this class, being as it almost the end of February, but fear not, Trend classes and private lessons can be arranged by contacting Jo-Ann Fabric and Crafts for Trend and Brochure classes, or contacting The Alchemists Vessel for your group, party or private lessons.

Happy Friday,

The weekend is here, and I am looking forward to it.

Today I wanted to share the upcoming classes that are available through Jo-Ann Fabric and Crafts Store, here in Boise, ID. Located at 1085 N. Milwaukee, (208) 323-5373.  Jewelry classes are taught in the downstairs classroom.  (Across the street from Home Depot). 

February’s Classes are still available and range from $30.00 to $35.00 per person.  Two hour sessions are offered, and include; instruction, a field trip through the store, a ten minute break, and time for questions, plus you get a lovely handmade project to take home with you.

Like Swarovski Crystal elements, but don’t like the retail price?  Jo-Ann’s has lots of glass bead alternatives that come in the right sizes and look just as pretty in your finished piece.

This month as well as next, classes feature Swarovski Crystals elements in 6mm Bi-cone shaped beads.

Jewelry Basics is not required to take any of the project classes.  If you would like to try it without committing to an entire project, the 2-1/2 session includes, an overview of Tools and Techniques, a field trip through the store, and a completed project to take home at the end of class.  *Some tools are provided during class time.  We ask students arrive with two pairs of pliers and material to complete the class.  If you would like to wait until class time to purchase your project needs that is also fine.  We’ll even ring you up at the counter right next to the classroom.

Jewelry 101 – 2-1/2 hr. Session – $35.00 This class is offered every month.

These projects vary by month, but beginning, intermediate and advanced classes are offered every month.

Today I am at stuck for something to post.  So instead here are several random items available from The Alchemists Vessel.

Monday – Five Fabulous Finds From Etsy

Good Morning,

I hope all are settling in to the new year and getting back to the “norm“ after the holidays.

This Monday has caught me ill-prepared and unawares of something to discuss.  So instead, I’m going to fudge the schedule a little and show you five fabulous items from three of my favorite shops on Etsy.

I like this woman’s art style, and she has chosen one of my favorite books as inspiration for the first collage.

Far From Ordinary – Photo Collage (Print)

 

A high resolution print of a photo collage I made using images from different magazines and books. This scene has an Alice in Wonderland theme wherein the exterior becomes the interior and it’s hard to say what’s really going on.There are two llamas sitting down for a cup of tea while little Alice gazes off into space and long, tall Alice tries to makes sense of the situation. There’s a clown fish swimming in a china cabinet and an owl perched on a curtain rod, watching the whole situation. This scene includes many references from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, such as the clock, the fan, the tea cup and bottles and of course, the Cheshire Cat peaking through a looking glass above the mantel. It’s no question, this scene is far from ordinary. This print is 5in x 7in and is printed on glossy photo paper.
Other sizes are available for every print.

What If… – Photo Collage (Print)

 

A high resolution print of a photo collage I made using images from different magazines. In a “what if” kind of world, you might feel inclined to dance through space while a couple of walruses and a penguin look on. A camouflaged horse tries to catch a butterfly and a hot air balloon travels safely, steering clear of the floating furniture. This print is 6.5in x 6.5in and is printed on glossy photo paper.
Other sizes are available for every print. 

A new Shop to my team on Etsy, this gal has some super lovely all natural handmade goodies for at home Spa days!  You can catch the scent just looking at the pictures.  Some of them look good enouhg to eat, but I wouldn’t recommend doing that.

Toasted Oatmeal, Sweet Milk, and Warm Honey Cold Process Bar Soap – handmade & natural – almond, vanilla, and anise scented or unscented

 

The net weight of each bar is approximately 3.5-4.4 ounces. All of my soaps are made using the old-fashioned cold process method in small quality-controlled batches. They are then cured for weeks to ensure that they reach the peak of their quality. This soap is available in both scented and unscented versions. The scented version smells like sweet milk and honey blended with oatmeal, almond, vanilla, and anise.The unscented version has the natural scent of toasted oats and milk. The lighter color seen in the unscented bar is natural while the darker color seen in the scented bar is the result of using the fragrance oil.
 

Terra – African Green Rooibos Tea, Australian Olive Green Clay, Ginger, and Lemongrass Cold Process Bar Soap – handmade, natural, & vegan

 

“Terra,” Latin for ‘Earth,’ is one of 4 soaps that will be in my Elemental Clay Soap Collection.

The net weight of each bar is approximately 3.5-4.4 ounces. All of my soaps are made using the old-fashioned cold process method in small quality-controlled batches. They are then cured for weeks to ensure that they reach the peak of their quality. This soap is scented with ginger and lemongrass essential oils. The scent of lemongrass is dominant. The colors seen are natural as well.

Made with extra virgin olive oil, coconut oil, organic raw unrefined golden shea butter, castor oil, organic African green rooibos tea-infused sweet almond oil, Australian olive green clay, the essential oils of lemongrass and ginger, organic African green rooibos tea and ground tea leaf, zeolite clay, spirulina powder, distilled water, and lye.

Monday – Starry Starry Snowflakes New in the Shop

Good Morning,

Monday is here and so is the snow!  Winter has arrived in earnest.  A quick shipping tip:  Next Monday, December 17th, is the last day to have your packages to the US Postal Service or other carrier of your choice to be sure your gifts arrives on time.

 The pattern, called Celtic Star Visions, Patchwork, or Dahlia, weaves quickly and makes a lovely and interesting lacy pattern depending on the size of the rings used, and can create a Star or Snowflake like pattern.

Available in a variety of colors, mix and match or solid single color.  With or without beads large or small.  I am still trying to figure how to list them for customization, you can find the earrings listed below.

Earrings Celtic Star Mini Chainmaille and Glass Beads

 

These down-sized Chainmaille earrings make a great addition to any jewelry box. This pattern is one of my favorites, lacy, feminine and very pretty. Silver-plated with a single silver-lined Czech Glass bead in Emerald that drops from a point of the star for a lovely accent.

3/4″ wide, Silver plated wire has been hand-spun, cut, beaded and linked in a Celtic Star pattern. A single silver-lined Czech Glass bead in Emerald hangs from the bottom point of the star as an accent. Hypo-allergenic silver tone ear wires finish the pair.
